Een stap-voor-stap handleiding om het spel te spelen

1

Take a minute to discover the panel with a group of 2-8 players.

2

Then, ask one of the children to step forward and to pick one of the 4 brain colors. The colors represent 4 categories:

  1. GREEN = TOOLS you use to learn
  2. BLUE = WHERE do you learn
  3. YELLOW = WHO do you learn from
  4. RED = HOW do you learn
3

A player picks a category (for example: BLUE = where). Ask the player to pick all the locations he/she finds on the panel where he/she learns. Discuss the images with the group.

4

Then, ask the group if it's still possible to learn in all these locations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Which locations are closed? Are there alternatives available? Which places became more/less important during the pandemic? How does COVID-19 affects your learning curve?

5

To wrap-up the activity, ask the kids to make a drawing of their ideal learning space. All the players present their drawing to the group. You can do the same activity with the other categories.

Extra informatie over het spel

This activity is a part of the COVID-19 package. The package aims to give youth workers the tools to discuss the consequences of the pandemic with their target group. The COVID-19 overview panel is the starting point for all the discussions. After playing the overview panel, extra activities on the seven different topics are available to dive deeper into the matter.

This educational panel offers youth workers the opportunity to discuss the different ways of formal and non-formal learning with children. Four categories are depicted on the panel, and every category contains multiple examples. All the examples have a circle with the same colour as the category, so it's easy to determine which example is linked to which category.

The categories are:

  1. GREEN = TOOLS you use to learn
  2. BLUE = WHERE do you learn
  3. YELLOW = WHO do you learn from
  4. RED = HOW do you learn

GREEN = TOOLS (examples clockwise)

  • Tablet and smartphone
  • Guitar, ball and painter's easel
  • Toolbox
  • Pen and paper
  • Books
  • Toys and chess board
  • Radio and television
  • Gaming console
  • Internet
  • Online videos

BLUE = LOCATIONS (where do you learn)

  • Mobile School
  • Home
  • Sports-field
  • Classroom
  • University
  • Religious buildings
  • Internet café
  • Factory
  • Street/market
  • Library/youth centre

YELLOW = Who do you learn from

  • Friends
  • Director/boss
  • Other cultures
  • Coach/youth worker
  • Role models
  • Religious characters (priest, imam)
  • Family

RED = how do you learn

  • Play
  • Plan
  • Structure, make to-do lists
  • Reward, get a certificate
  • Reflect, think
  • Listen
  • Ask questions, discuss
  • Explain, take responsibility
  • Experiment
  • Practice, train
  • Study and learn

It's important to stress that children can also learn outside of a school environment. They learn constantly! COVID-19 has disrupted formal education, but it's still possible for children to keep learning in different environments. This panel initiates this discussion!

For StreetSmart Wheels partners, the code of the poster is SOCIETY-B9

Variaties

  • Combine different colors! For example: learning by playing. Where can you do that? With whom do you like to play? What do you learn from it? What are the tools you use? Write down the key findings on a paper or on a blackboard.
  • Goal-setting: define a goal together with one of the players. Then, ask the player which steps he/she needs to take in order to accomplish the objective. Get inspiration by looking at the education panel. Which ways work best for you? How can you achieve your target? Are there multiple pathways to reach your goal?

Specifieke leerdoelen

  • Learn about the impact of COVID-19 on education
  • Train creativity on how to reach targets
