Make it yourself

1

Step 1

Make rotation disc 1 with different sports

Take a carton board and cut out an arrow or disc to spin. Then, look for about 10 illustrations of sports and paste them around the disk. If you spin the disc now, it will land on one of the sports.

2

Step 2

Make rotation disc 2 with different professions

Same as step 1: take a carton board and cut out an arrow or disc to spin. Then, look for about 10 illustrations of different jobs/professions and paste them around the disc. If you spin the disc now, it will land on one of the professions. Feel free to add a 'joker' square: if the arrow lands on this field, a player can choose freely.

Step 3

Make rotation disc 3 with four different tasks

Take a carton board and cut out an arrow or disc to spin. Divide the carton board in four equal areas with illustrations that show:

  1. Draw
  2. Act out
  3. Tell about it
  4. Free choice (joker)

Good job!

A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

One player stands in front of the sports and professions disc. The other players move a bit further away in front of the rotation disc with tasks.

2

The first player spins the sports or professions disc. The arrow lands on a specific sport/profession. Now the other team spins the disc with the task and it lands on one of the four tasks (f.ex. drawing)

3

Then the player needs to draw his/her sports or profession on the board or on a paper. The other team members need to guess till they find the right solution, like in a game of pictionary.

4

The player who guessed the right answer, is the next one to play. The game ends when all the professions or sports are covered. An extra discussion element can be added to the game, by asking the players what they would like to become and how they would use their talents to do so.

Extra game information

This game was developed during a StreetwiZe leadership programme with employees of Telenet, in collaboration with the Red Cross centre for asylum seekers in Pelt.

Variations

If the arrow lands on a free choice (joker) square, the player can choose his sports, profession or task. Of course, the topic of the rotation discs can be adapted according to the target group you work with.

This game allows children to reflect on their own skills, by seeing the different sports and professions. If needed, the topics of the rotation discs can still be adapted to your local situation. A discussion element about future orientation can still be added to make the activity more impactful!

Nice game that is very accessible to children. In a simple way, it allows children to talk, draw, portray about their talent for a sport or profession. The game is also easily adaptable to different themes or situations.
