Make it yourself

1

Step 1

Think about 4 dilemmas your target group might encounter
  • Look for a drawing or a picture of those dilemmas.
  • F.ex.: vegetables or candy
2

Step 2

Stick the dilemmas to your large cardboard
  • This cardboard will function as a game board.
  • Draw a line in between the two choices.
3

Step 3

Now think about the consequences of those choices
  • Look for an image or draw the consequence.
  • Stick it next to the dilemmas.
4

Step 4

Each consequence concludes with a small exercise.
  • Draw the exercise next to the consequence.
5

Step 5

Repeat this process until you've completed the whole game board.
  • Be aware of the line that changes between the different dilemmas.
6

Step 6

Cut the other large cardboard a bit smaller
  • This cardboard will serve to cover up for the dilemmas and consequences.
  • You can also stick some sliders to your game board, or just put the cardboard on top of the dilemmas.

A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

Gather a group of 4 players in front of the panel. The game is a collaborative board game, so no need for making teams, since everyone will be part of the same team.

2

Pull the carton cover back one space, until you see the first activity. Complete the task before continuing the game.

3

Pull the carton cover further. The players will be confronted with a dilemma (for example: going to school – staying on the street). Ask the players to make a choice and to motivate their choice. Since the rest of the board game is still covered by the carton cover, the players are never immediately aware about the consequences of their decisions.

4

Pull the cover back in order to see the results of the decision.

5

Continue with the next exercises until you reach the end of the board game.

6

After the game, have a reflection with the children about their decisions and about the consequences these decisions had on the course of the game.

Extra game information

The Fanjo board game is covered with a carton board. Slide the carton board on top to a little bit to the right after every step until the next activity or the next dilemma is visible. This way players don’t see the consequence of their choice immediately, which

creates the space to start up a discussion with the players.

Variations

It’s important to come up with activities and dilemma’s relevant for your target group. Come up with different dilemma’s like:

  • Health
  • Drug use
  • Jobs and professions
  • Family situation
  • Street life
  • Conflict with family members
  • ...

Specific learning objectives

Learn to imagine the consequences of certain decisions
