Step 1

Create the board

Draw a goose board of about 50 squares (see picture). Each side of the panel represents a specific continent.

2

Step 2

Add tasks to the different squares

Give each square a specific task. Tasks include: mathematical task, physical activity (jump in the air, arm wrestling, sing a song, rock-paper-scissors, run, dance, juggle, push-ups...), fuel (skip a turn). Make sure you also have at least two squares that are linked to one of the continents (animal, monument, typical object ...).

3

Step 3

Create the disk

Make a rotation disc and divide the disk in to six pieces with numbers from 1 to 6. The disk will function as a die to determine how many squares the players will move forward on the board.

Good job!

A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

Each player will pick a car. Position all the cars at the start square of the board.

2

Each player spins the rotation disc. The player then moves the indicated number of squares forward.

3

The player completes the task linked to the square he/she landed on. For example: 6+1, or run around the mobile school. If a player lands on a fueling station, he/she needs to skip a turn.

4

If the player is able to complete the task, he/she keeps the position on the board. If the player fails, he/she needs to go back 1 square.

5

The player who finishes first, is the winner of the game!

Extra game information

This game is called World Race because the players are going to explore different continents around the world. The continents are represented by the red and green squares, depicting animals or monuments linked to a specific continent. This offers the opportunity to talk about the different continents.

A goose board is always a good idea! World Race is an entertaining board game that includes different tasks as you go along the board. However, not all the tasks are described clearly, so educators will need to make time to find and assign relevant tasks to all of the squares. The link with the different continents is an added value, but the link can be made stronger.
