Paso 1

Create the game board

Take a carton board and make a goose board with the help of post-its as shown on the image.

Paso 2

Add tasks to the post-its

Now, take some post-its and make drawings of basic things you need when you're on the move. Make sure to have post-its where you will have this basic necessity (+2) and cards where you're deprived of this necessity (-2). For example: you have access to education, or you don't have access to education.

Also add some physical activities on some cards, like jumping in the air or doing 10 push-ups. Feel free to use your creativity when developing your own game board.

Put all the pawns of all players at the start square and ask the first player to role the dice. For example: the youngest player can start the game!

If the player lands on a picture, ask him/her to guess which basic need is shown. Depending on the fact if the need is fulfilled or not, the player can move two spaces forward or backwards on the board.

If the player lands on a question or an activity, the player should answer the question or perform the physical activity.

The first player to reach the finish is the winner of the game!

This game was developed during a StreetwiZe leadership programle, in collaboration with a Red Cross centre for asylum seekers.

It's important to make sure a street educator is available at all times to facilitate the game, since personal stories might be shared during this game. Therefore the minimum age of this game will be around 7 years old.

This game is easy to make and easy to play! However, it's crucial to take some time to think in advance on which tasks and which images you want to put on the different squares of the game. Also make sure to have an educator to facilitate the game at all times, so he/she can lead the discussions. Apart from that, this is a great game concept to talk about basic needs for children on the move!

It's a fun and creative game. I like the fact that you can add information if you needed. At the same time, I like very much the fact that you can also use this methodology for other kinds of topics. The sports or movements added to the game, make it even more fun!

Always fun to play a boardgame! It's a nice introduction to different basic needs and can help children in their first reflection steps. When making the game, be sure there is as much probability to land on a - 2 as a 2 basic need.

Board games are very useful while working with children and young people. It is simple to make and easy to play. Using the basic needs, the game leader can monitor a conversation and make children aware of the different situations in which others find themselves. It's great that an interactive and movement element is included (questions and physical activities). The game can be easily adapted to any situation or age, so that everyone can enjoy it!
