A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

Players stand in two lines facing each other, leaving some space in the middle.

2

Explain the rule: when they hear “Switch if...”, players have to move to the opposite line and find a new spot if the statement is true for them. If it's not, they stay where they are.

3

Start with simple and fun statements on hobbies or preferences. For example: “Switch if you like football”.

4

After a few rounds, guide towards the theme of equality and diversity, for example “Switch if you speak more than one language”, or “Switch if you’ve ever felt left out”.

Extra game information

This game is part of "The Children's Parliament: Access to Justice - International Day for Street Children 2026" activity, and helps explore the pillar of Equality through play.

This activity uses movement to highlight both similarities and differences within the group. It helps children understand that diversity is normal and that everyone deserves to be treated equally, regardless of their background or experiences.

Discussion tips

To spark a reflection and deepen the conversation, at the end of the game you can ask the players questions like:

  • What did you notice during the game?
  • Did anything surprise you?
  • Did you find people similar to you?
  • How can we make sure everyone feels included?

Variations

If you are playing with younger groups

Use lighter and fun-based prompts, then guide the conversation towards the theme of equality during the discussion part.

If you are playing with older groups

Use deeper prompts linked to rights and inclusion, each followed by a brief discussion.

Challenge

After a few warm-up rounds, invite players to take turns creating their own "Switch if..." statements and explain why they chose them.

Specific learning objectives

  • Recognize similarities/differences within the group in a non-judgmental way.
  • Understand that diversity is normal and valuable.
  • Develop empathy through shared experiences.
