Doubtful cards

You divide the group in two. One group leaves the room so that they cannot hear the others. The group that stays is positioned on the wall opposite the door.

In the middle of the room you place a pile of cards (the dubious cards).

You go to both groups in succession and give them the same identical assignment, which reads as follows: "During the game you are not allowed to speak or give signs to anyone. The assignment is to build a house that is as large as possible."

At the group that is already inside, tell them that they can only start when the other group is also inside.

When the game starts, you as a supervisor stand aloof and observe the behavior of the players.

In the beginning, this behavior will be competitive and chaotic. But as the game progresses, players will realize that they can work together as well instead of fighting each other.

Stop the game and hold a discussion with the players.

• How did they interpret the assignment?
• Why did you (not) choose for collaboration?
• What agreements did you make within your team?
• How does it feel to be able to communicate so little?
