A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

Mark off 5 boxes on the floor with paper tape.

2

Part one:

  • Explain to your group that today you will look for different ways to respond to racism. Everyone has their own style that may differ in context. Communicate in advance that any style can be a good style.
  • Let the participants think of some online/offline racist situations themselves. These could be situations that they themselves (or someone close to them) have already experienced.
  • Let them write down these situations on a sheet of paper. When everyone has come up with a situation, collect them and read them out. Everyone has to choose which of the following options best reflects
3

Part two:

Discuss this with the group:

  • What did you think of the activity?
  •  Surprised by your groupmates' reactions?
  •  Which scenarios did you find most difficult to respond to and why?
  • Did you think these were all examples of racism?
  • Have you ever faced racism; either as a victim or bystander?
  • What did you think was the best way to respond? Why?
  • What did you think was not the best way to respond? Why not?

Supervisor tip: if the group is too large for proper reflection, it is best to split up. Afterwards, you can still choose to do a feedback with the whole group
