Everything you need to play this game

  • 9 chairs or chalk

A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

Place nine chairs in the middle of the room, in a formation of three by three, or draw a grid on the ground with chalk.

2

Split the group into two equal teams. One group will be the X's and one group will be the O's. The groups are positioned on opposite sides of the chairs/grid.

3

Now, every player gets a number. In both teams (X and O), there will be a player with the number 1, the number 2, etc.

4

The game leader calls out one of the numbers. The X and O players with that particular number need to race each other. Whoever can sit down on a chair first (or stand in the grid drawn on the ground), forming the symbol of their team (either X or O) with their arms above their head, wins and can stay in the grid. The other player needs to get out.

5

The goal for both teams is to get three X's or O's in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

6

The team that has three in a row the fastest, wins!

Variations

  • To make the game a bit more difficult, you can tell the teams they cannot form their three in a row in the row that's closest to them. That way, they have to run a bit further, increasing the suspense and fun!
  • If you are playing the game on a lawn, you can ask the players to lie down and form the symbols X and O with their entire bodies.
