Un guide étape par étape pour jouer le jeu

Attach the three panels next to each other on the same side of the mobile school. Leave space next to the legend panel (BUSINESS E1b) to draw the table to keep track of the players choices and budget.

The players turn the dice to decide who starts the game. The player with the highest score starts.

Each player starts the game with a budget of 100. If a player gets bankrupt along the way, he must return to start and start over with the initial budget of 100.

The players must now make a first choice: study or work. They choose one, spin the dice and move forward the number of spaces in the direction of their choice.

When arriving at an illustrated green circle, consult the legend panel to find out what to do. Read and follow the instructions.

When arriving on an orange "choice" circle, the player must stop to make a choice. Only with the next throw he can continue on the chosen path.

If the icon of the chosen decision depicts a coloured arrow, this means the player needs to spin the rotation disc to determine his job. The colour of the arrow indicates which coloured circle on the rotation disc panel one must refer to for that particular choice path.

Each choice brings a player into a new path, which has integrated the consequences of the choice (statistically). As with all board games involving dice, chance always plays a role. This is in itself an important notion to take up in the discussions.

What role does luck or chance play in life?

On any choice space, one is allowed to take on a loan or pay off loan.

When a player has a loan that has not been paid back by the time they reach the end of their path, they need to subtract their outstanding debts from their final budget.

The winner is the player with the most money at the end. The player who gets to the end of his path first, wins a bonus of 50.

When the game is finished, discuss the consequences of particular choices. Suggested questions:

Which path is easiest and why?
Which path pays off most in the end, despite struggle? Why?
What is the role of chance or luck in the game?
What path is most appealing and why?

BUSINESS E1a

In the middle of this board game you see a red circle as the starting point of the game. On the sides, there are 12 possible ending points in red circles. The yellow circles are the road between the beginning and the ending of the game.

BUSINESS E1b

The legend panel where the symbols from BUSINESS E1a are explained. It explains the symbols and choices in the board game and also serves as a template for the chalk drawn table in which the players note their situation/choices and follow-up their budget.

The first part of the legend (top) refers to the choices made along the way. The second part of the legend (bottom) contains explanations of the various symbols depicted in the game and what their consequence is.

BUSINESS E1c

The rotation disc consists of five circles, each representing a different path:

The circle closest to the rotation disc in the centre represents a dice. Simultaneously, this circle is used for the gambling game (roulette). If one lands on the gambling symbol, one can choose how much money to bet. Once the bet is made, one spins the disc. If the arrow points to green, one wins this amount of money; if the arrow points to red, one loses the amount that was bet.
The blue circle represents different types of street jobs. All jobs earn 20 at each salary symbol, except begging and theft, which only earns ten.
The green circle depicts different forms of professional employment, where one works within a structure, organisations, company, etc. All these jobs earn 40.
The red circle represents different businesses, each of which earns 50.
The outer orange circle contains different types of street businesses, each earning 30.

Variations

To make the game more challenging, you can add competitive games to certain symbols or add new rules to the symbols: a. whenever someone comes on the "competition" symbol, they need to do a round of "rock-paper-scissors" with all the others in the same sector b. if someone lands on the "interest" symbol, everyone with a loan has to pay the increased interest rate (- 10) c. if you land on the "police" symbol, the players need to pay a fine (- 10) if they are involved in an illegal activity. This on top of a skip a turn like all the rest.
Combine with the panels on operational and capital costs (BUSINESS B2a - B2c). The players indicate what materials need to be bought for which business.
