Everything you need to play this game

  • A bag
  • Objects related to safe sex: a condom, a female condom, a cap/diaphram, birth control (the pill, vaginal ring, IUD/IUS), a needle and a urinalysis cup,...

A step-by-step guide to play the game

Prepare the goodie bag beforehand. Fill a bag with objects related to safe sex, e.g.:

  • a condom
  • a female condom
  • a cap/diaphram
  • birth control (the pill, vaginal ring, IUD/IUS)
  • a needle
  • a urinalysis cup
  • ...

Ask all players to sit down in a circle.

Pass the goodie bag to the first player on your left and ask him/her to take out one of the objects without looking.

Ask the player if he/she has seen the object before and knows what it is and what it is used for.

Open up a discussion and/or give additional information yourself.

Keep passing the goodie bag around until all items have been discussed.

By going over the items one by one, you can go over a lot of information together with the young people, e.g.:

  • Which contraception do/would they use?
  • What are the pros/cons of the different types of contraception?
  • How much does birth control cost?
  • Where can you get an STD test?
  • How can you make an appointment and how much does it cost?
  • How often do you need to get an STD test?
  • What happens when you get an STD test?
  • ...

Extra game information

  • As a game leader you need to make sure you have the necessary information about the objects in the bag.
  • This activity is a part of the StreetSmart sexuality package. The package aims to give youth workers the tools they need to address the topic of sexuality in a playful way with the children and young people they work with, so they can learn to make conscious, healthy and respectful decisions. Sexuality is a very broad term, encompassing various subtopics. Here, you can find a list of all activities included in our sexuality package to address these different topics:
  1. Sexuality in general: The Sex Alphabet, The Sexuality Goose Game, Yes or No Circle, Sexuality Statement Game
  2. Body (development): Anatomy fundamentals, Who has what?, Physical changes in puberty, Emotional changes in puberty, Life Cycle
  3. Boundaries: Stop!, People to People, Kiss the Teddy Bear, Body Carrousel, (Not) Okay?, Body Twister
  4. Relationships: Choose Your Relationship, My Ideal Partner, In The Worst Way Possible
  5. Gender & sexual orientation: Labels, Sex Change, Who does what?
  6. Safe sex: The Synonym Game, Condom Smugglers, Goodie Bag, STD-Roulette, Can I get pregnant?

  • Music: Pass the bag around on music. The player holding the bag when the music ends, opens it and takes out an object.
  • Own goodie bag: The group of players can also create their own goodie bag. Ask the players to bring/find an object they relate to relationships in general or to a specific topic of sexuality and put them in a goodie bag to pass around. After the player that took out the object explains what he/she sees, you can then ask who brought that object and why.
  • Age: Adapt the content of the bag to discuss the topic of relationships and sexuality with younger children, e.g: a keychain with a heart, a tampon, a condom, a ring, a birth card,...
  • Topic: You can easily adapt this game to introduce any topic of your choosing by changing the objects in the goodie bag.
