A step-by-step guide to play the game

1

Explain the game concept:

You bought condoms, but you do not want your roommates to know, so your goal is to smuggle them to your room without them noticing.

2

Define the playing field & split the group into two teams: the smugglers and the curious roomies. Give all smugglers a condom.

3

The smugglers hide the condom somewhere on their body. The curious roomies have to face the other way so they can't see where the condom is being hidden.

4

When the game leader says "go", the smugglers start running to the other side, trying to reach the opposite side of the playing field without being tagged by one of the curious roomies.

5

When a smuggler gets tagged, he has to stand still and count till 30 out loud. The curious roomies can search for the condom for those 30 seconds.

6

If the roomie does not find the condom, the smuggler can start running again. If the roomie does find the condom, the smuggler is eliminated.

7

The groups switch and play the game again.

8

Open up a discussion about the use of condoms and other preservatives and about safe sex in general, by asking questions such as:

  • What are the pros and cons of using a condom (and/or other preservatives)?
  • When should you (not) use a condom?
  • In a relationship, whose responsibility is it to buy a condom (or another contraceptive)?
  • What can you say if your sex partner does not want to use a condom? What would you do?
  • Where can you get condoms (for free)?
  • ...
9

Often, there's many misconceptions about the use of condoms, so you can also opt for following up the game with a "(not) correct" game. Give a statement regarding the use of preservatives. The players have to move to your left if they think the statement is correct and to your right if they think the statement is not correct, e.g.:

  • Wearing two condoms is safer than wearing one.
  • A condom can expire.
  • You cannot get pregnant the first time you have sex.
  • Condoms can rupture.
  • ...
10

After the game and the discussion/(not) correct game, you can show the players how to put on a condom (e.g. on a banana) and ask them to do it as well.

Extra game information

  • To make sure the game can be played in a safe way:
  1. Agree on the places where the condom can be hidden beforehand with the group to avoid it being tucked away in placed that are too intimate.
  2. The curious roomie first asks permission to touch the smuggler. If he/she doesn’t give permission, the roomie lists the places he/she would search orally. If he/she mentions the place where the condom is stashed, he/she wins and the smuggler is out.
